Our cooling coats are made from a technical Evercool type of fabric that doesn't absorb heat. The open weave pattern allows heat from the dog to escape out and outside air to flow in, and the fabric never gets hot to the touch.
In between the 2 outer layers is a layer of small polly threads that help keep the coat damp, while also aiding in air circulation.
Our coats work by evaporative cooling. Just dunk in water, wring out, and the coat will stay cool and damp for hours.
They fit close to your dog's body, much like a thunder shirt, so there may be a calming effect as well.
The coat covers and cools your dog's neck and head, as the head heats up rapidly due to less fur and thinner tissue. The neck contains a rich and vital number of blood vessels that supply all your dog's vital organs, so keeping the neck cool is essential to your dog's safety in high temperatures.
I personally have had dogs suffer from heat intolerance and I live in Florida. It is so scary and really impedes what I can do with my dogs.
When determining your dog's coat size the most important measurement is the back.
Measure from your dogs withers (collar), to their tail set. Whatever that measurement is correlates to the coat sizes which are in centimeters.
If your dog falls between 2 numbers, then deciding on going up or down a size depends on height and body type.
A more refined dog can fit great in the smaller size while a dog with a bigger body and head will be better to go to the larger size.
For example, my tall whippet's back measured 24 inches (approx 62cm.), so I thought a size 60. It ended up draping on him like a robe because his lean body didn't fill it out.
He fits perfectly in a 55 size. If he had a stockier build like a Dutchie, then the 60 would have worked.
Feel free to ask any questions about sizing.
Please include your dog's height, weight and breed (or breeds, if mixed) in the Comments section at checkout.
